ICBM16-Recap: The conference brought together many scientists, experts, and industry professionals from around the world.

From September 21 to 24, 2026, the 16th International Conference on Barkhausen Noise and Micromagnetic Testing (ICBM16) brought together researchers, scientists and industry professionals from around the world at TU Dortmund University, Germany.

Hosted by the Chair of Materials Test Engineering (WPT), headed by Prof. Frank Walther, the ICBM conference, organized by Julian Rozo Vasquez, provided an international platform for presenting and discussing current research, methodological developments and industrial applications in Barkhausen noise, micromagnetic testing and related non-destructive evaluation methods.

Key topics included

  • Non-destructive materials characterization
  • Investigations of stress states, residual stresses and defect analysis
  • Combined applications of micromagnetic and microscopic techniques
  • Modeling and simulation
  • Machine learning-oriented studies
  • Industrial applications.

The scientific program featured keynote lectures, technical presentations and poster contributions, providing a broad overview of current developments in the field.

Beyond the scientific sessions, laboratory tours, a Women in NDT meeting, a Dortmund city tour and a conference dinner provided further opportunities for professional exchange, networking and strengthening connections within the international ICBM community.

We would like to thank all participants, speakers, partners, organizers and contributors for making ICBM16 a successful and memorable event.

The ICBM16 recap video provides impressions and highlights from four inspiring days in Dortmund. The conference proceedings are published on NDT.net and provide access to the scientific contributions presented at ICBM16 in Dortmund.
