A look back at the meeting of the DGM expert committee

On June 17, 2026, the DGM expert committee on “Hybrid Materials and Structures” visited the Chair of Materials Test Engineering (WPT) at the TU Dortmund University.

The event provided participants from academia and industry with a platform for professional exchange on current research and development issues in the field of hybrid materials and structures. The focus was particularly on material combinations of metals and composites, modern manufacturing and joining technologies, as well as issues related to the damage and failure behavior of hybrid lightweight structures.

The technical presentations and discussions highlighted the high relevance of hybrid material systems for future applications and underscored the importance of close collaboration between research institutions, industry partners, and end-users. The interdisciplinary exchange within the expert committee provided valuable impetus for current and future research activities.

In addition to the lecture program, participants gained insights into the Chair’s diverse research activities during a guided tour of the WPT laboratories. Among other things, various destructive and non-destructive testing methods were presented, along with research activities in the field of additive manufacturing and investigations into material behavior under the influence of hydrogen.

The Chair of Materials Test Engineering would like to thank all speakers and participants for their interesting presentations, constructive discussions, and the successful event. We appreciate the many technical suggestions and look forward to continued exchange within the network of the DGM expert committee on “Hybrid Materials and Structures.”
